It's March so it's Women's History Month!

The month is created to observe the extraordinary legacy of women in American history according to the celebratory month's website.

Here at BroadwayBox, we are thrilled to celebrate the dynamic, exceptional and talented women who have graced the stages on Broadway. This month, we will be looking back at decades worth of musicals and the singular performances by the year that stopped us in our tracks.

Next up in this series is the 1990's!

1990 - "Waiting For Life" performed (at 3:22) by LaChanze (from Once On This Island)

Look at how luminous LaChanze is on this Ahrens and Flaherty song! She is like an absolute ray of sunshine.

1991 - "Sun and Moon" performed by Lea Salonga (from Miss Saigon

This Miss Saigon song is absolutely synonymous in our ears with Lea's beautiful, pure tone on this love song. Who can forget this audition video!?

1992 - "Adelaide's Lament" performed by Faith Prince (from Guys and Dolls)

The comedy, the vocal, Faith is a totally fabulous throwback to the Golden Age comediennes of Broadway. This revival cast recording is one of our faves.

1993 - "Where You Are" performed by Chita Rivera (from Kiss of the Spider Woman)

Chita slithering across the Broadhurst Theatre stage in her crisp white suit singing this Kander and Ebb showstopper is a dream.

1994 - "Mister Snow" performed by Audra McDonald (from Carousel)

Oh Audra, you are marvelous! We had to choose this Rodgers and Hammerstein number for Carrie Pipperidge. Yes she sings it beautifully but it's her acting that has us in awe.

1995 - "Woman" performed by Brenda Braxton, B.J. Crosby, DeLee Lively, Pattie Darcy Jones (Deb Lyons performs in her place here) (from Smokey Joe's Cafe)

For Women's History Month, we were thrilled to honor the incredible ladies who brought this number to thrilling life bringing all of their outstanding voices together for a heck of a memorable, empowering song!

1996 - "Out Tonight" performed by Daphne Rubin-Vega (from Rent)

There was something so exciting about Daphne skyrocketing on to Broadway in Jonathan Larson's musical. Mimi Marquez was put on the map by Daphne and her forever memorable performance.

1997 - "I Will Never Leave You" performed by Emily Skinner and Alice Ripley (from Side Show)

Have you belted this song at the top of your lungs with your bestie? We know we aren't alone here. These two extraordinary ladies were Tony nominated together and performed our favorite song this year.

1998 (TIE) - "Back To Before" performed by Marin Mazzie (from Ragtime) and "Do-Re-Mi" performed by Rebecca Luker (from The Sound of Music)

It is so difficult to fathom that Broadway has lost these two truly talented bright lights. In 1998, both actresses were on top of their game - Marin as the strong, steadfast Mother in Ragtime and Rebecca stepping in to the enormous shoes of Mary Martin and Julie Andrews as Maria.

1999 - "My New Philosophy" performed by Kristin Chenoweth (from You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown)

Miss Sally Brown landed on Broadway in the form of the effervescent Kristin Chenoweth belting out this Andrew Lippa tune.
