It''s March so it's Women's History Month!

The month is created to observe the extraordinary legacy of women in American history according to the celebratory month's website.

Here at BroadwayBox, we are thrilled to celebrate the dynamic, exceptional and talented women who have graced the stages on Broadway. This month, we will be looking back at decades worth of musicals and the singular performances by the year that stopped us in our tracks.

Next up in this series is the 2000's!

2000 - "The Gods Love Nubia" performed by Heather Headley (from Aida)

Honestly, every part of this score sung by Heather Headley is heavenly. We will never forget rewinding this Rosie performance over and over again for the exceptional finale of this song with Heather at the helm.

2001 - "Move" performed by Heather Headley, Audra McDonald and Lillias White (from Dreamgirls Actors Fund Benefit)

We are making an exception for '01 and honoring this remarkable benefit weeks after 9/11 that remains one of our fave cast albums, period - end of sentence. This trio of ladies are superstars in their own right. Together? Our fave of the year.

2002 - "Gimme Gimme" performed by Sutton Foster (from Thoroughly Modern Millie)

What did we do pre-Rosie's show? Sutton Foster, bedazzled in ruby sequins, singing this musical theatre beltress standard at the start of her magnificent Millie rise was a dream!

2003 - "Defying Gravity" performed by Idina Menzel (from Wicked)

It's the end of the first act, you're sitting in the Gershwin Theatre, Idina Menzel rises in the air belting the last few measures of this tune. We have goosebumps too!

2004 - "Once Upon A Time" performed by Eden Espinosa (from Bklyn)

Was the show an enormous hit? Next question. However! Eden Espinosa sang this Mount Everest of belting for so many press appearances and maybe we did too trying to hit her UNREAL high A she riffed up to in this clip.

2005 - "Fable" performed by Victoria Clark (from The Light in the Piazza)

Victoria's Tony Award winning performance as Margaret Johnson, mother to her daughter Clara, was... every positive adjective you could think of. At the conclusion of this Adam Guettel musical, this performance is the shimmering jewel to wrap up this incredible story.

2006 - "Around The World" performed by Christine Ebersole (from Grey Gardens)

Dozens of rose bouquets for Christine as Edie describing her mementos in this poignant, delicate number singing the truths of living at Grey Gardens.

2007 - "Magic" performed by Kerry Butler (from Xanadu)

The magical Kerry Butler so beautifully channeled the flair of Olivia Newton-John's vocals with her effortless comic timing on this iconic tune from the film to stage score. Her Australian accent was unforgettable!

2008 - "Everything's Coming Up Roses" performed by Patti LuPone (from Gypsy)

Book. Scenes. On. The Tonys! This performance was electrifying! Musical theatre superstardom that we are shaking that cart at 3:41 with Patti. We have to watch this one again!

2009 - "You Don't Know" performed by Alice Ripley (from Next To Normal)

Alice Ripley's heartbreaking, honest lyric delivery in this song in particular is an acting masterclass. She sounds incredible with that picture perfect vibrato but it's Alice's acting that made her our favorite this year as Diana Goodman.
