Happy International Women's Day!

The theme for 2021's International Women's Day is #ChooseToChallenge and one song took first place when thinking of how we could best celebrate this important date: "Woman" by Claude-Michel Schönberg, Alain Boublil, Richard Maltby, Jr. and John Dempsey for the Broadway musical The Pirate Queen.

Though the musical did not have the longest life on Broadway, this song continued to have a life of its own. The thoughts and feelings of Grace O'Malley, an Irish woman who sets her sights on sailing aboard "The Pirate Queen" ship. The lyrics are all about choosing to challenge.

The musical opened on Broadway starring Tony Award winner Stephanie J. Block. The power in this performance!

Additionally in February 2020, another former fellow Elphaba in Wicked and currently Come From Away's Rachel Tucker starred in a benefit concert at the London Coliseum. The score drop at 2:33 on the beat, the astonished cast watching on. Phenomenal.

Let's have a look at four up and coming performers starting out their musical theatre careers singing these powerful words choosing to challenge!
