The New Smokey Joe's Café Is Going to Be Lit AF! Just Take …

Hold onto your hats because Smokey Joe’s Café

is coming back and this cast does not play. The Grammy-winning and Tony-nominated musical revue celebrates the songs of Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller, and for the first New York revival the show found some of the fiercest singers working today. These nine young stars are going to blow the roof clear off off-Broadway’s Stage 42. Directed & choreographed by Joshua Bergasse, the new Smokey Joe’s begins July 6, 2018.

Below, we take a look at this stellar cast and what makes each so special.

Alysha Umphress

Queen! You’d have to be a first-time reader to not know how wild we are for Alyssa & her killer, killer voice.

Nicole Vanessa Ortiz

Don’t sleep on NVO ‘cause this lady is a STAR. That voice does not quit. She is both Whitney and Mariah—yes, there can be miracles when you believe.

Kyle Taylor Parker

One of Broadway’s ultimate Lolas struts into this café and we can’t wait to see the electrifying energy he brings to this piece. Also, check out his Soul Sessions video series if you haven’t yet.

Jelani Remy

The pride of Pride Rock trades Disney for some classic soul. Unleash the beast on this amazing score.

Dionne Figgins

Dionne gave us our entire life in off-Broadway’s Trip of Love! My guess is she’s on the Brenda Braxton track in Smokey Joe’s, so needless to say they’ll need to have oxygen tanks on hand at the theatre to get through it.

John Edwards

Just listen to that rich, deep voice on John Edwards—Damn! I can’t wait to hear him bring it live.

Emma Degerstedt

This former Nickelodeon star can go from Ariel to Cassie, and that’s impressive as hell. Also mad props from cult musical fans for being in the OBC of Jason Robert Brown’s 13.

Max Sangerman

Max comes from Blue Man Group and The Lightning Thief tour, and his voice is fierce.

Dwayne Cooper

This alum of Hairspray and Motown has some hilarious videos on his channel. He is very creative and talented.

Check out this incredible bunch in ‘Smokey Joe’s Café’, beginning off-Broadway at Stage 42 on July 6.
