Twice a year for decades now, the Broadway community comes together to collect for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS. The weeks of fundraising at the various shows on Broadway and across the country lead up to two incredible yearly benefits: The Red Bucket Follies in the fall and what would have been The Easter Bonnet Competition this spring. As we are unable to gather for the event this year - Broadway Cares, partnering with Seniorly.com, is pulling out all the stops for this special Sunday online benefit for Mother's Day.
Just like The Easter Bonnet Competition, the benefit will include performances by the Broadway companies of Chicago, Come From Away, Diana, Girl From The North Country, Jagged Little Pill, Mean Girls, Moulin Rouge, Mrs. Doubtfire, Six and Tina. Check out the starstudded cast scheduled to appear: LaChanze, Jill Abramovitz, Kate Baldwin, Jenni Barber, Laura Benanti, Betty Buckley, Carolee Carmello, Victoria Clark, Chuck Cooper, Claybourne Elder, Eden Espinosa, Beanie Feldstein, Harvey Fierstein, Celia Rose Gooding, Mandy Gonzalez, Molly Griggs, James Monroe Iglehart, Judy Kaye, Celia Keenan-Bolger, Raymond J. The event's website mentions that the event will feature not only the fabulous cast but a whole family affair including appearances by their children and their own mothers. We are bound to hear some songs, laugh at some comedy sketches and much more - just as we would at The Easter Bonnet Competition.
