Hot Clip of the Day: Zero Mostel in Forum

Each day, the Bbox team trolls YouTube for the hot clip—sometimes it's a brand-new moment and sometimes it's a throwback to an oldie but goodie. No matter what praise hands are shot up, pearls are clutched and the repeat button is hit.

"Comedy Tonight" from A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum (Zero Mostel)

Ulterior Motives: We all need comedy today, tonight, tomorrow, next week but really the original Broadway production of A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum

opened tonight in 1962 at the Alvin Theatre (now the Neil Simon). Let's kick off the weekend with some joy from three time Tony Award winner (including his role here as Pseudolus) Zero Mostel.

Ultimate 🙌 🙌 moment: When you think of these Tony broadcasts from years past, there are years that stand out just as a show. 1986 is one of our favorites but 1971 isn't far behind. It was the Tony Awards' 25th Anniversary. That year, the broadcast highlighted performances from every year by original cast members. For 1962's ...Forum, Zero came back to perform this legendary opening number solo this time around. We are living for the first 30 seconds alone. The subtle choreo on the downbeat of the beginning vamp and then the funny faces he makes. Gotta love that he ended on that big note too!
