Lindsay Mendez Is a Tony Nominee! 12 Epic Videos of the Car…

Lindsay Mendez is a 2018 Tony Award nominee for her featured performance as Carrie Pipperidge in the Broadway revival of Carousel. She lands laugh after laugh and shows Broadway a new side to her crazy-big voice on the beloved Rodgers & Hammerstein score. In celebration of her first Tony nomination, BroadwayBox shares 12 of our favorite all-time Lindsay Mendez belting the house down videos. (To see what she has to say about some of these clips, click here.)

“Meadowlark”, The Baker’s Wife

Ultimate 🙌 🙌 moment: Mama is ACTING here—she’s giving you the full LuPone at the Acting Company. Then those vocals! Hello, 3:36-3:51. But also that “My past once again will blind me” at 4:13.

“Unworthy of Your Love”, Assassins

Ultimate 🙌 🙌 moment: Her and Ryan Scott Oliver might do my fave rendition of this Sondheim duet, mainly ‘cause Lindsay slays it like no one’s business beginning at 2:05 (and special shout out to the growl at 2:22).

“The Wizard and I”, Wicked

Ultimate 🙌 🙌 moment: Yes, Broadway’s 10th Anniversary Elphaba brought it big time to this Schwartz score. Let’s not even play with this one: it’s the “When I stand there with The Wizard….” Beginning at 2:50. SING QUEEN!

“Hand in Hand” by Kerrigan—Lowdermilk

Ultimate 🙌 🙌 moment: Child, this whole video is a praise hand moment. I personally start shouting “come through” beginning at 1:36 and just continue waving, snapping, and shouting through ‘till about 2:55.

“The Ballad of Sara Berry”, 35mm

Ultimate 🙌 🙌 moment: I can legit remember the afternoon many moons ago a co-worker first introduced me to this song; it was that epic. When the “God save the queen” moments began at 3:59 into that crazy screlting, I was legit changed. Also, living for Jay Armstrong’s dance moves in the background around 4:10.

“Bless the Lord”, Godspell

Ultimate 🙌 🙌 moment: Throwing it back to the big Mendez breakout moment. That :56- 1:15 is just an appetizer for 2:18 to the end. Also, can she just do a Stephen Schwartz concert one day? I’d live.

“Come to a Party/Nothing Short of Wonderful”, Dogfight

Ultimate 🙌 🙌 moment: Pour one out for Dogfight, always. “Nothing Short of Wonderful” melts the heart, especially at 6:08.

“The Party Goes With You”, 35mm

Ultimate 🙌 🙌 moment: Yes, another RSO moment. #NotSorry. This is one of his most beautiful songs and hers is the quintessential rendition. She is giving you a FULL performance here. Every lyric scorching you. Come on with 2:40 that “nearly one of my yeses”. But again, this whole video is a lot of finger and hand waving at my desktop.

“Lost in the Brass", Band Geeks

Ultimate 🙌 🙌 moment: Have to include this joyful tune, mainly for what Lindsay does from 2:00-2:20, and as always, that ending.

“Buenos Aires”, Evita

Ultimate 🙌 🙌 moment: Who doesn’t love a well-sung Evita moment? I’d revive the show for :21-:49 alone.

“The Spark of Creation”, Children of Eden

Ultimate 🙌 🙌 moment: Someone produce Children of Eden and cast Lindsay as Eve. This is 30-second clip but had to be included just for that ending! #AnotherSchwartzSong

“That's When the Tears Start", The Marvelous Wonderettes

Ultimate 🙌 🙌 moment: This was nearly 10 years ago, and you can already see the musical star she's destined to become when you get to 1:56-2:37.

Don't miss Lindsay Mendez in her Tony-nominated 'Carousel' performance at Broadway's Imperial Theatre.
