Here they are 10 photos and videos that almost make you forget that it’s hot and it’s summer but you’re clearly inside not enjoying the day.
10. Shia Makes Cabaret Less Beautiful
Okay, this is just too ridiculous: troubled film star Shia LaBeouf was apparently dragged out of Studio 54 after disrupting the June 26 performance of Cabaret—handcuffs and muzzle allegedly followed. Maybe it was all an allergic reaction to pineapples?
9. Things Get Awkward on Hulu Thanks to Wes Taylor
Season Two of the clever, romantic and very addictive series It Could Be Worse premieres on Hulu on July 17. Expect a gaggle of familiar Broadway faces.
8. The OBC of A Chorus Line Brings Us to Tears
When Donna McKechnie, Sammy Williams, Baayork Lee and the other original cast members of A Chorus Line stepped out—top hats in hand—to dance “One” at the Public Theater Gala, it was unbelievable. But when they started that final kickline, it was all tears and chills.
7. James Franco Provides the Meat in a Drag Queen Sandwich
Of Mice and Men headliner James Franco got in the spirit at this year’s Broadway Bares with a little help from Drag Race winner Bianca Del Rio and Matilda Olivier winner Lesli Margherita. Uncensored photo here.
6. The Last Ship Is Filled to the Brim with Passion & Booze
Based on the b-roll for the Broadway-bound musical The Last Ship, we can expect lots of passion, some great Michael Esper moments and plenty of pints to go around.
5. On The Town Ships Class Back to NYC
Wouldn’t it be great to be transported back to a New York before rappers pushed CDs into your hands on the streets and the Naked Cowboy(s) split Times Square turf with Elmo? The new revival of On the Town is bringing old New York back for all of us in desperate need to remember why it’s a helluva town. And also, could they find cuter sailors? #MakeEveryWeekFleetWeek
4. And Our Minds Just Went Tick, Tick…BOOM!
Seeing original Tick, tick…BOOM! star Raul Esparza backstage with current Encores! star Lin-Manuel Miranda made us question: Is this real life? (But in a David After Dentist kind of way.)
3. Sierra Boggess Takes A Backseat to Bess
Lady Day star Audra McDonald took a visit to see her old Porgy and Bess pal Norm Lewis in The Phantom of the Opera, and it looks like poor Sierra Boggess was totally the third wheel. #GirlStoleHerSignaturePose
2. Effie Who?
The archives of legendary Broadway photographer Martha Swope are online at the New York Public Library if you want to go down that rabbit hole, but we’ll save you the time. Here’s the photo. The original Dreamgirls giving us all kinds of life in that Act Two Vogue Sequence. Just one more Miss Jones.
1. Checkmate, Ryan Murphy
Joan Marcus has outdone herself with this stunning photo of the freaks in the *fingers crossed* Broadway-bound revival of Side Show. We could just study this photo all day. Ryan Murphy’s American Horror Story: Freak Show has some big shoes to fill now.
