The off-Broadway drama In Fields Where They Lay tells the true story of the World War 1 Christmas Truce—where British and German soldiers began singing Christmas carols across No Man’s Land on the night of December 24. It’s one of those stories that is so crazy it has to be true. The play is based on letters and diary entries from actual guys that were there and the result is incredibly powerful.

The play stars War Horse alum Stephen James Anthony (who must be like a WWI expert by now) as British sniper-hunter Private Thomas Pfeiffer. And he agreed to share his all-time favorite Christmas carols in the playlist below.
