In the Closet With: Lauren Worsham Is Giving Hair, 'Cleave'…

Lauren Worsham is the Mary Ann to Lisa O’Hare’s Ginger in the new (critically acclaimed and super nominated) musical A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder. Worsham makes her Broadway debut as Phoebe D’Ysquith, the darling aristocrat who marries a distant cousin that just happened to kill her closeted gay brother. (And you thought Maria, Tony and Bernardo had issues.) Worsham shines in the role—as is evidence by her Drama Desk nomination for Outstanding Featured Actress in a Musical—and BroadwayBox is so lucky that she agreed to show us some of the fabulous and fancy Linda Cho gowns in Phoebe D’Ysquith wardrobe.

"Mourner Dress"

This is the dress I wear as an anonymous mourner at the top of each act. I love this dress because it does require me to lift up my skirt to walk everywhere. The hat ain’t too shabby neither.

"Garden Dress"

Phoebe is a delicate flower with a tiny waist and a giant head of hair. Here I am trying to be delicate while leaning against a heating pipe. Glamour!

"Phoebe's Mourning Dress"

I wear two different mourning dresses in this show...fitting considering eight people die. The detail on this bodice is simply stunning and surprisingly sexy. This is the dress Phoebe wears to greet Monty as he comforts her after (unbeknownst to Phoebe) killing her brother.

"I've Decided to Marry You" Dress.

Phoebe's "I'm-too-excited-I-have-to-tell-you-that-we-have-to-get-married" dress is incredibly beautiful. You can't see as many of the details here but once again, Linda Cho has out done herself.

"I've Decided to Marry You" Dress Up Close But in the Dark

We tried to take a photo in the quick change booth, but it was a bit dark.

"Highhurst Dinner Dress and Tiara"

This is a very quick change. You can see the blurred figure of the lovely Monica as she furiously fixes my up-do Phoebe hair and tiara. I feel like a princess in this dress!

Look at Monica go! She is a pinning dervish!

"Trial Dress (The One with the Giant Blue Hat)"

This is my final and favorite dress. Phoebe is all grown up and showing some 'cleave. Linda Cho really knows how to make a girl feel beautiful and dangerous. That hat? Yes, it's heavy. Yes, my neck hurts. Yes, it is truly awesome and I wouldn't' give it up for the world.

See Lauren Worsham putting on a fashion show and giving a Drama Desk-nominated performance in ‘A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder’ at the Walter Kerr Theatre.
