Walter Elias Disney created an empire built on joy. Disney also gave the theatrical community seven beloved Broadway musicals (Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King, Aida, Tarzan, Mary Poppins, The Little Mermaid and Newsies); and this spring, Aladdin becomes the latest Disney property to find new life on stage. December 5, 2013 would have been the 112th birthday of the man behind the mouse; to mark the momentous occasion BroadwayBox spotlights five of our favorite Disney moments on stage.

"The Circle of Life"- The Lion King

"The Circle of Life" is the electrifying and genius opening number from the Tony-winning, record-breaking musical The Lion King, now playing at the Minskoff Theatre.

"Be Our Guest"- Beauty and the Beast

"The Gods Love Nubia"- Aida

The only actress to win a Tony Award for her role in a Disney musical, Heather Headley had several amazing moments in Aida, but the Act 1 closer "The Gods Love Nubia" was truly outstanding.

"King of New York"- Newsies

The Act 2 opener "King of New York" in Disney's current hit Newsies features some of the best tap dancing on Broadway today.

"Under the Sea"- The Little Mermaid

The Broadway production of The Little Mermaid may have had some faults, but no one could argue with Tituss Burgess' unparalleled rendition of the Oscar-winning song "Under the Sea." (It gets insane at the 3:00 minute mark).
