Meet Your New Crush: Revolution in the Elbow Star Marrick S…

The new rock musical Revolution in the Elbow of Ragnar Agnarsson Furniture Painter may take place on an elbow, but star Marrick Smith gets hearts heavily involved as Peter, the smart young man who introduces the concept of loans to the humble society set up in one man’s extremity. With Hollywood good looks and a Broadway caliber voice, we’ll surely be seeing much more of Mr. Smith, so take some time today to get to know the Staten Island singer/songwriter.

1. If someone handed me a briefcase full of money, I’d buy:
Either my very own awesome apartment or a home studio!!

2. My favorite dish made with lobster:
Fettuccini Alfredo with lobster meat.

3. Last time I flipped a coin, it was over:
I can't remember the last time I flipped one but I have always like to spin them on their sides like tops and watch them fall.

4. Desert island Broadway cast recording:
Sunday in the Park (the original) or Spring Awakening.

5. TV show that my DVR has to record:
Walking Dead is religion to my little brother and me. We always watch it together and if we can't both be there, we wait. We are both oddly sensitive about it and will get in little fights if one of us watches without the other.

6. The character from literature I most relate to:
I love Prince Hal in Shakespeare's Henry IV and King Henry V. You find this young prince of England partying with a bunch of criminals and thieves like Falstaff, and by Henry V he has defied everyone's expectations, gotten his act together and become one of the greatest kings in England's history. He was known as a king of the people who, because of his former days of debauchery, judged no one too harshly.

7. Celebrity crush:
Jennifer Lawrence for sure. I think she would be a blast to just hang with.

8. Best part about growing up in Staten Island:
I feel like I grew up in a small town, but I still had the greatest city in the world a boat ride away. I booked my first real acting gig while I was still in high school because I was able to cut school, run into Manhattan and audition. This is also why I knew I needed to get away from Manhattan if I was gonna get a college degree.

9. The singer/songwriter I feel most inspired by when creating my own music:
Two people: Jeff Buckley and Ed Sheeran.

10. Current NYC obsession:
Insomnia cookies: I don't like to think about how much money I have spent on pre and post-show cookies.

See Marrick Smith belting his face off—sometimes even shirtless—in ‘Revolution in the Elbow of Ragnar Agnarsson Furniture Painter’ at the Minetta Lane Theatre.
