Tickets at Vivian Beaumont Theater - Lincoln Center

The Vivian Beaumont Theater opened in 1965 and has been through several managements and periods of inactivity in following years. In 1985, Lincoln Center Theater acquired the venue and it has been under its operations ever since under the direction of André Bishop and Bernard Gersten.

In 1996 the theater underwent an $8 million renovation that improved its acoustics, increased handicap access and upgraded the building’s infrastructure.

Story for The King and I

The King and I follows English teacher Anna Leonowens (Marin Mazzie), a recent widower who in 1862 takes up the post as tutor to the King of Siam's many children. The clash of East meets West soon leads to Anna and the King becoming antagonist, but slowly a deep friendship develops that hints at the unfulfilled romance between them.

The score contains some of Rodgers' and Hammerstein's most memorable tunes: 'I Whistle a Happy Tune,' 'Hello, Young Lovers' and 'Shall We Dance.'
