About Shadow and Light - Off Broadway

Show Info

Swiss master Arthur Honegger’s meditation on the horrors of World War II ends on a hopeful note, echoing the chorale finale of Bach’s heart-stopping vocal tour-de-force, while Takemitsu’s exquisite modern Romantic opus reveals concerns similar to his musical forebears. The Early-18th-century English composer Charles Avison—unsung to this day—is represented by one of his 12 unique creations fashioned around works for solo keyboard by Bach contemporary Domenico Scarlatti.

All ticket holders may attend Hear Hear!, a free preview of the evening’s contemporary work performed in full. Alice Tully Hall doors open at 7 PM on concert nights for this exciting event. Our presentation on January 25 features Toru Takemitsu’s Death and Resurrection.
