Story for Dido and Aeneas

Don’t miss Tony Award winners Kelli O’Hara and Victoria Clark, and celebrated opera singers Elliot Madore, Anna Christy, and Sarah Mesko, in a semi-staged version of Henry Purcell’s tempestuous Baroque opera Dido and Aeneas, featuring the singers of MasterVoices, Orchestra of St. Luke’s, and Doug Varone and Dancers. Dido and Aeneas tells the story of the widowed Queen of Carthage (O’Hara) and the war hero Aeneas (Madore), two ill-fated lovers driven apart by a devious Sorceress (Clark).

Formerly known as The Collegiate Chorale, MasterVoices has been “a valuable part of the New York music scene” (The New York Times) for nearly 75 years. In partnership with City Center, the group will bring Purcell’s opera and a world premiere prologue composed by Michael John LaChiusa (The Wild Party, First Daughter Suite) to spellbinding life this April.
