On The Twentieth Century Reviews

Kristin Chenoweth and Peter Gallagher are surfing the stratosphere in “On the Twentieth Century,” Scott Ellis’s ripping, lavishly appointed revival.”
Ben Brantley, The New York Times
Gloriously revived by the Roundabout Theatre Company, this 1978 musical — now with sparkling turns by Kristin Chenoweth and Peter Gallagher — is a fast-paced romp. Buy your tickets before the train leaves the station.”
Frank Scheck, New York Post
La Cheno is one of the great Broadway stars of our time, but she has never had a role that cast so bright and sustained a light on her multifaceted talents, and the resulting shine is dazzling.
Adam Feldman, Time Out New York

Summary

Roundabout Theatre Company presents a hilarious new production of ON THE TWENTIETH CENTURY, the Tony®-winning musical comedy from the creators of Sweet Charity (composer Cy Coleman), Singin’ in the Rain (lyricist-librettists Betty Comden and Adolph Green), After Midnight (Tony-winning choreographer Warren Carlyle) and Curtains (Tony-nominated director Scott Ellis).

Luck, love and mischief collide aboard the Twentieth Century, a luxury train, when the bankrupt theater producer Oscar Jaffe (Golden Globe® winner Peter Gallagher) embarks on a madcap mission to cajole glamorous Hollywood starlet Lily Garland (Tony Award® winner Kristin Chenoweth) into playing the lead in his new, non-existent epic drama. But is the train ride long enough to reignite the spark between these former lovers, create a play from scratch, and find the money to get it all the way to Broadway? Grab your ticket and hop onboard this fun-filled musical journey to The Great White Way!
