Tickets at Todd Haimes Theatre

The Todd Haimes Theatre was built in 1918 by producers (and brothers) Arch and Edgar Selwyn and was originally named The Selwyn Theatre. Like many other theaters, it fell victim to the economic woes of the Great Depression and became a movie house in the 1930s.

The venue was a movie theater for almost 70 years, until it was purchased by the Roundabout Theatre Company in the late 1990s. After an expensive overhaul, it reopened as The American Airlines Theatre in 2000. In January 2024, the theater was renamed in memory of Roundabout Theatre Company's longtime artistic director and chief executive Todd Haimes.

Story for On The Twentieth Century

Roundabout Theatre Company presents a hilarious new production of ON THE TWENTIETH CENTURY, the Tony-winning musical comedy from composer Cy Coleman (Sweet Charity), lyricist-librettists Betty Comden and Adolph Green (Singin’ in the Rain), Tony-winning choreographer Warren Carlyle (After Midnight, …Drood) and Tony-nominated director Scott Ellis (You Can’t Take It With You, …Drood).

Luck, love and mischief collide aboard the Twentieth Century, a luxury train, when the bankrupt theater producer Oscar Jaffe (Golden Globe® winner Peter Gallagher) embarks on a madcap mission to cajole glamorous Hollywood starlet Lily Garland (Tony® and Emmy® Award winner Kristin Chenoweth) into playing the lead in his new, non-existent epic drama. But is the train ride long enough to reignite the spark between these former lovers, create a play from scratch, and find the money to get it all the way to Broadway? This fun-filled musical journey to The Great White Way also stars Tony nominee Andy Karl (Rocky, …Drood), Drama Desk nominee Mark Linn-Baker (You Can’t Take It With You), Tony winner Michael McGrath (Nice Work If You Can Get It) and Tony winner Mary Louise Wilson (Grey Gardens).
