The New Century Tickets

The four short plays that make up The New Century feature everyone from a concerned Long Island mother of at least three gay children to an accomplished Midwestern craftswoman to one of playwright Paul Rudnick's favorites, Mr. Charles, a flamboyant resident of Palm Beach. Ultimately, they all collide under surprising and comic circumstances and we discover just where our new century might be heading. Rudnick's comedies Pride and Joy, Mr. Charles Currently of Palm Beach, Crafty and The New Century combine to create an outrageously funny and provocative original work that asks questions not easily answered.

Story for The New Century

The New Century is a funny and outrageous comedy, but it doesn’t stop there. Mr. Rudnick is in a provocative mood, and the resulting work, set in New York City in the present day, raises questions not easily answered. Comprised of four short plays, The New Century is an original new work that culminates in an unlikely meeting between Helene, the self-proclaimed “most loving mother of all time” to her three gay children; the flamboyant Mr. Charles, incognito in New York City after being banned for being “too gay;” Shane, Mr. Charles partner; and Barbara Ellen, a Midwesterner on a visit to New York after her son’s death.

THE NEW CENTURY, Plays by Paul Rudnick, Directed by Nicholas Martin with Peter Bartlett, Mike Doyle, Jayne Houdyshell, Linda Lavin and Christy Pusz.
