Summary

The King and I follows English teacher Anna Leonowens (Kelli O'Hara), a recent widower who in 1862 takes up the post as tutor to the King of Siam's many children. The clash of East meets West soon leads to Anna and the King becoming antagonist, but slowly a deep friendship develops that hints at the unfulfilled romance between them.

The score contains some of Rodgers' and Hammerstein's most memorable tunes: 'I Whistle a Happy Tune,' 'Hello, Young Lovers' and 'Shall We Dance.'
