Equus, based on a true story told to playwright Shaffer, concerns a troubled English stable boy, Alan Strang (Radcliffe), who blinded six horses with a spike. His life seems routine, his family loving, his pursuits harmless and yet he has been placed under psychiatric surveillance - an unresponsive patient who is woken each night by terrible nightmares. Psychiatrist Martin Dysart (Griffiths) attempts to discover the source of Strang's emotions and motivations, and unleashes a disturbing secret.
Daniel Radcliffe, a world-wide notable as the face of Harry Potter in the blockbuster movie series, made his West End stage debut opposite multi-award winning actor (and Harry Potter co-star) Richard Griffiths. Griffiths garnered the Tony Award 2006 Best Actor in a Play in The History Boys. Equus was recently a successful hit at London's Gielgud Theatre.
