#TBT Counting Down 12 Stars in the Alley Videos That Are Al…

Stars in the Alley returns to Shubert Alley at 1PM on Friday, June 1 for a free outdoor concert featuring appearances and musical performances from over 20 Broadway shows. It’s going to be absolutely epic, and in preparation, BBox throws it back to a dozen of our favorite past performances from Stars in the Alley.

12. Brandy Performs “Roxie” from Chicago, 2015

Anytime Brandy plays Roxie, it’s an event; and any time you have the chance to hear her spin on this score, you take it. #QueenRoxie

11. Brooks Ashmanskas & Helene Yorke Perform “Let’s Misbehave” from Bullets Over Broadway, 2014

This number highlights the comedic genius of these two character actors together, and they dance the hell out of it.

10. Mamie Parris Performs “Memory” from Cats, 2017

This one starts at 3:30, and the Mamie “one breath” Parris moment happens at 5:51. CHIILS.

9. Ciara Renee & Kyle Dean Massey Perform “On the Right Track” from Pippin, 2014

Stars in the Alley is a fan-favorite because you get an opportunity to glimpse replacement stars’ fantastic performances—such was the case with these two Pippin stars and their killer dance break.

8. Lilli Cooper Performs “The Wizard and I” from Wicked, 2015

The current SpongeBob star sure could slay this Schwartz anthem. Come through for that big ending!

7. Carmen Cusack Performs “Way Back in the Day” from Bright Star, 2016

The way her voice sounds on this song is like how summer feels. It’s so balmy and wistful and absolutely stunning.

6. John Gallagher Jr & Lauren Pritchard Perform “Don’t Do Sadness/Blue Wind” from Spring Awakening, 2007

Throwback to perfection. It didn’t get better than this moment in the OBC of Spring Awakening.

5. Adriane Lenox Performs “Women Be Wise” from After Midnight, 2014

This is a comedic performance for the ages—at least to me. It’s a master class.

4. Dave Malloy Performs “Sonya Alone” from The Great Comet of 1812, 2017

What a beautiful moment when the creator of this cult musical took the stage to perform this ballad beloved by the show’s fans.

3. Kelli O’Hara Performs “To Build a Home” from The Bridges of Madison County , 2014

Kelli is giving a full-out performance right now, and it’s everything. Why wasn’t BroadwayHD capturing musicals when Bridges had its very limited run?!

2. Joshua Henry Performs “Let It Sing” from Violet, 2014

This is one of my all-time favorite Joshua Henry videos because these vocals are pure church. It is a joy from start to stop.

1. Heather Headley Performs “Push Da Button” from The Color Purple, 2016

I’m still not recovered from this. The Tony winner had just stepped into the show and this was her big coming out moment. She sang Shubert Alley to the ground. She should have dropped at least three mics at the end, tbqh.

Don't miss this year's STARS IN THE ALLEY on June 1 at 1 PM.
