Five Fierce Singers Who'd Be Killer as the Star of Broadway…

Alanis Morissette’s seminal 1995 break-up album Jagged Little Pill is coming to Broadway. The Canadian singer-songwriter told USA Today that she is teaming up with Tony winner Tom Kitt (If/Then, Next to Normal) to adapt the album into a new musical to be workshopped in New York in 2014. Morissette said she may appear in the musical herself, but we think the story of a young woman in a bad relationship, who comes out the other side even more empowered, might be best embodied by one of the many extraordinary actresses already in the theater scene. To star in Jagged Little Pill, the leading lady would need to have rock star pipes and plenty of soul; below, BroadwayBox picks five fierce divas we think can bring this album to vivid life on stage.

5. Emma Hunton (Spring Awakening, Rent, Next to Normal)

4. Rebecca Naomi Jones (American Idiot, Passing Strange, Murder Ballad)

3. Morgan James (Godspell, Motown, Wonderland, The Addams Family)

2. Lindsay Mendez (Wicked, Godspell, Dogfight, Everyday Rapture)

1. Caissie Levy (Les Miserables, Ghost, Hair, Wicked, Murder Ballad)
