Well Tickets

What do you do when you're trying to tell your story, and your Mom has found her way into your play? Welcome to the world of Well, Lisa Kron's hilarious and endlessly inventive comedy. Well opens with Lisa Kron's mother sitting on a La-Z-Boy recliner in the middle of the stage. As the play goes on to deal with Kron's personal experience of healing, a comedic coup d'etat breaks out. The actors critique the script, her memories conflict with her flashbacks, her mother interrupts with her own opinions, and Kron finds herself in danger of losing control. Well's Broadway mounting comes exactly two years after its acclaimed run off-Broadway at the Public Theater, where Ben Brantley of The New York Times called it "wonderful and delirious." He went on to declare that Well is filled "with plenty of bright one-liners and priceless tales of embarrassment. This deeply affecting shows has a warmth that makes you want to recommend it to everyone." This play is shaping up to be one of the don't miss theatrical events of the spring season!

Tickets at Longacre Theatre

The Longacre, named for Longacre Square (now Times Square), was built by producer/manager H.H. Frazee (also known as the owner of the Boston Red Sox who sold Babe Ruth to the Yankees). After Frazee fell into financial difficulties, the theatre changed hands many times before being sold to Astor Theatre Incorporated, a Shubert subsidiary, in 1919. WOR leased it from 1943-1953 as a radio and television playhouse.

Henry B. Herts designed the Longacre, one of four currently operating Shubert playhouses that he designed. It boasts a French Neo-classical-style exterior and a Beaux Arts-style interior, but lacks some of the individuality and flair which characterized Herts’ other designs.

In 2007-08, architect Michael Kostow oversaw a multimillion dollar restoration of the theatre, restoring the original plasterwork and architectural detail, expanding patron amenities, improving sightlines and repairing and cleaning the neo-French Classical exterior facade.
