Cherry Lane Theatre welcomes back Edward Albee with The American Dream and The Sandbox, which are being billed together as an evening of One-Acts.
Edward Albee directs this evening of his own one-acts that pairs The American Dream, a startling story of murder and morality that rocks middle-class ethics to the complacent core, with The Sandbox, an allegory of the nature of life and death, and stars two-time Tony Award winner Judith Ivey and Obie and Drama Desk Award winners Myra Carter and George Bartenieff. The American Dream and The Sandbox were produced by ALBARWILD, a collaboration between producers Richard Barr and Clinton Wilder, along with Albee, designed to give production opportunities to emerging playwrights (Sam Shepard and LeRoi Jones and Amiri Baraka among them). This is the inspiration for Cherry Lane Mentor Project, now celebrating its 10th anniversary season. Discussions with Edward Albee will take place following performances on March 18th and April 8th.
