Richard Alston and his British dance company return to The Joyce, completing a coast-to-coast US tour. This season, the passionate voices of Monteverdi madrigals accompany his sensually melting Fever. Such Longing, a dance as lyrical and as melancholy as the music of Chopin, subtly pays homage to Jerome Robbins’ Dances At A Gathering — with music played live by pianist Jason Ridgway. In Gypsy Mixture, the wild sounds of Romanian village bands have been remixed by Latin club DJs, and this truly hybrid music inspires a full-company dance of unabashed celebration.
