Sutton Foster and Gavin Creel star in Roundabout Theatre Company’s one-night-only Benefit Musical Performance of the beloved, Tony®-nominated 1983 musical My One and Only, featuring classic George & Ira Gershwin showtunes such as “Nice Work If You Can Get It,” “’S Wonderful,” and, of course, “My One and Only.” Captain Billy Buck Chandler(Creel) and Edythe Herbert (Foster) occupy wildly different worlds—Billy is an aviator dead-set on becoming the first person in the world to fly nonstop from America to Paris, and Edythe is a world-renowned swimmer who rose to stardom as the third woman ever to swim the English Channel. But even from afar, Billy falls hard for Edythe, and he knows that his only shot at gaining her attention is nothing less than the earth-shattering success of his transatlantic expedition. With love in the picture, however, nothing goes according to plan, and there is no end to the hilarious, out-of-this-world antics into which passion will lead this unlikely duo. Rob Ashford directs this outlandish, uproarious, and utterly heartfelt comedy, which pits romance against class and fame, exploding conventional notions of who we should love and, more importantly, who we should be.
Proceeds from My One and Only will benefit Roundabout’s Musical Theatre Fund, which is dedicated to preserving this great American art form by bringing familiar and lesser-known works to a new generation of theatregoers, like this spring’s Kiss Me, Kate.
