Story for Mariinsky Orchestra at NJPAC

Valery Gergiev’s visits to NJPAC with his Mariinsky Orchestra have always been unforgettable events—but their return this season is going to raise the roof of Prudential Hall. The centerpiece of the program is Igor Stravinsky’s seismic ballet, Le Sacre du Printemps (The Rite of Spring), marking the 100th anniversary of that sprawling masterpiece. The program also includes Richard Strauss’s autobiographical tone poem Ein Heldenleben (A Hero’s Life), and pianist Denis Matsuev as soloist in Dmitri Shostakovich’s slyly elegant Piano Concerto No. 1. You only think you’ve heard this music before. What might be merely a concert in other hands is sure to become an exciting ride with Gergiev at the helm.

On Sunday, October 28th, Valery Gergiev leads the Mariinsky Orchestra in a program that marks the 100th anniversary of Stravinsky’s The Rite of Spring.
