To Kill a Mockingbird was voted the number one book on PBS’s America Reads. Harper Lee’s classic tale of intolerance and lies set in Macomb, Alabama in 1934 is frighteningly true today in an atmosphere promoting xenophobia and racial hatred. The acting throughout is superb, and there are many light moments provided both by Scout and Judge Taylor (Dakin Matthews). The characters are symbols of innocence, good, and evil as they are in the 1960 book and in the 1962 film with Gregory Peck and Mary Badham in the lead roles. The staging of elevators and lifts by Miriam Buether, scenic designer, is innovative and effective. Bartlet Sher, director, has a blockbuster hit with a fine ensemble cast. The show opens on December 13, it’s a winner.

Jeff Daniels is perfectly cast as Atticus Finch. This is the first time that the play is on Broadway and it was worth the wait. It had my attention from the beginning to the end!
