About In Darfur - Off Broadway

Show Info

Join us for an inside look into the creative process of developing a new play! What you will see is a bare bones production – some staging, some design elements – and the chance for Winter Miller to continue to work on the play with the most important ingredient – YOU – the audience! This development production of In Darfur will be more than a reading but not yet a full production. This important step in the creative process will allow the playwright to work collaboratively with a director, actors and design team and learn from an audience's presence and response. This play also affords us the opportunity to respond quickly and urgently to the humanitarian crisis in Darfur and to do our part to draw public attention to the situation in Darfur. We will be presenting Conversations on Darfur: a series of post-show discussions with leading activists, thinkers and journalists on the issues of Darfur.ABOUT THE PLAY Working as Research Assistant to Nicholas Kristof, Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist from The New York Times, playwright Winter Miller is immersed in the issues surrounding the ongoing genocide in Darfur, Sudan. In Darfur is the provocative account of three intertwined lives at a camp for Internally Displaced Persons in Darfur. The story follows an aid-worker’s mission to save and protect lives, a journalist’s pursuit to deliver a Page One story and a Darfuri woman’s quest for safety. It is a searing story of urgency and international significance.
