FABULOUS on every level

The writing, the production, the performers, everything was perfection.

Very Good Acting

American Son stars Kerry Washington as Kendra and Steven Pasquale as Scott, the parents of a missing child. The action takes place in a Miami police station. There are several very topical themes explored in the play: the police handling of distraught parents, their substantially different attitudes toward blacks and whites in a similar situation, and “following orders” as a routine ploy in a highly unusual situation. The acting is very good, but the vehicle limits the performers’ range because they are forced to go all out in rage. Nevertheless, the play is worthwhile for its pertinent themes in today’s society in the wake of Black Lives Matter, parenting skills, and the pressure placed upon young people by both their family and society.
