Miguel Ángel Cotto is a Puerto Rican professional boxer. He is a former WBO light welterweight champion. Cotto is currently a WBA welterweight champion. While he was still an amateur, Cotto represented Puerto Rico in the lightweight and light welterweight divisions at various international events. Miguel Cotto began his professional career in 2001. In 2004 he defeated Kelson Pinto for the WBO junior welterweight championship. He won that championship five more times before going up to the welterweight division.
