About Teena Marie:

Teena Marie is an American Grammy Award-nominated singer–songwriter–producer. Her debut album, "Wild and Peaceful", includes the hit single "I'm Just a Sucker for Your Love" - a duet with Rick James. Her second album, "Lady T", was released in 1980 and produced by Richard Rudolph. Teena Marie released her first gold record, "It Must Be Magic" in 1981. The album includes the hits "Square Biz", "Portuguese Love", and "Yes Indeed". Other albums by Marie include "Emerald City" (1986), "Naked to the World" (1988), which includes the hit "Ooh La La La", and "Ivory" (1990). In 1994, Marie released the album "Passion Play" on her own label, Sarat. Ten years later she released her comeback album "La Dona".

Marie is regarded a pioneer in bringing hip-hop to the mainstream. She was the first artist of her time to rap one of her singles - "Square Biz". Marie is inspired by artists like Johann Sebastian Bach, Sarah Vaughn, Nikki Giovanni Maya Angelou, and Shakespeare.
