Soundgarden is an American rock band formed in 1984 in Seattle, Washington by singer and rhythm guitarist Chris Cornell, lead guitarist Kim Thayil, and bassist Hiro Yamamoto. Soundgarden has an important role in the creation of the grunge, an alternative rock style that was also developed in Seattle. Soundgarden's 1994 album 'Superunknown' includes the popular singles "Black Hole Sun" and "Spoonman", which debuted number one on the Billboard charts and also granted them a Grammy Award.
