Ray Davies is an English rock musician. Between 1966 and 1976 Davis was the lead singer, chief songwriter, and rhythm guitarist in the Kinks, a British rock group. During the 1990s The Kinks gradually became inactive and Davies started performing solo.

Davies's songwriting is often considered mature, sophisticated, and subtle. His lyrics often contain satirical elements and in his songs there are signs of social conscience, as he expresses the aspirations and frustrations of British middle-class life.
