The Whitney collects and exhibits American art from the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. The Museum's collections start at l900 and continue to the present. The fifth floor galleries contain art from the permanent collection, l900 to l949; the second floor exhibits art from l950 to the present day. Other floors are devoted to changing exhibitions.

The Whitney Museum of American Art is the leading institution of American art and culture of our time, housed in a landmark of modern architecture. The Whitney's renowned holdings of 20th and 21st-century American art, arguably the finest such collection in the world, include works by Edward Hopper, Georgia O’Keeffe, Jackson Pollock, and Jasper Johns. These works and many other favorites are always on view, along with many ground- breaking exhibitions presented throughout the year.
