We Are Theatre is an evening of reading of short plays, songs and monologues by women. A speak out against discrimination in theatre.
WE ARE THEATRE is an evening of monologues, skits, songs and scenes about sexism in theatre. Works by Anonymous, Tiffany Antone, Brooke Berman, Kate Bornstein, Paula Cizmar, Sarah Duncan, Lauren Ferebee, Mila Golubov, Elizabeth Hess, Yvette Heyliger, Velina Hasu Houston, Penny Jackson, Andrea Lepcio, Marianne McDonald, Irina Merkina, Honor Molloy, Laura Shamas, Caridad Svich, Kathleen Warnock, Sheilah Rae, Theresa Rebeck, Thelma Virata de Castro, Shay Youngblood and Guerrilla Girls On Tour! will be read by New York City based performers.
This one night only event is supported by Women's Project and Productions, the LA Female Playwrights Initiative, Hollaback!, Hedgebrook, Live Girls! Theater, The Queen's Company, New Perspectives Theatre, Judith Shakespeare Company, The Negro Ensemble, Guerrilla Girls Broad Band, Little Black Dress INK, Project Girl, Nashville Dramaturgy Project, Looking for Lilith, Tap It New Works Ensemble Theatre and Gloria Steinem.
WE ARE THEATRE will bring women theatre artists to the forefront, reminding everyone that women have been writing plays for eleven centuries, yet we continue to be under produced, under published and completely erased from the canon perpetuating the assumption that there is too little work by us and too little of it which is any good.
