The Vertical Hour Tickets

The Vertical Hour centers on Nadia Blye, a young American war correspondent turned academic who now teaches Political Studies at Yale. A brief holiday with her boyfriend in the Welsh borders brings her into contact with a kind of Englishman whose culture and beliefs are a surprise and a challenge, both to her and to her relationship. The Vertical Hour marks the first time in playwright David Hare's (Stuff Happens) career that one of his plays will have a world premiere in the U.S.

Tickets at Music Box Theatre

The Music Box was opened in 1921 by producer Sam H. Harris and composer Irving Berlin to showcase a series of Berlin’s “Music Box Revues.” Heralded on more than one occasion as the “best looking house on Broadway,” this 87-year-old venue has only been home to legitimate theater—unlike many of its neighbors.

To this day, The Music Box is co-owned by Irving Berlin’s estate along with the Shubert Organization.

Story for The Vertical Hour

This fall, four-time Academy Award® nominee Julianne Moore (Far From Heaven, The Hours) makes her Broadway debut alongside Golden Globe nominee Bill Nighy (Love, Actually), in The Vertical Hour, a thrilling world premiere by David Hare, the three-time Tony®-nominated author of Stuff Happens, Amy's View and Plenty. Directing is Academy Award winner Sam Mendes (American Beauty). The Vertical Hour tells the story of a young American war-reporter-turned-academic who travels abroad and finds herself caught in a most surprising romantic triangle, pulled between the affections of her lover and her lover's father.
