Story for The Trip to Bountiful
The Trip to the Bountiful the first Broadway revival of Horton Foote's 1953 play. A touching American classic, The Trip to Bountiful, tells the story of Carrie Watts, an elderly woman who wishes to return to her small hometown of Bountiful, Texas one last time before she dies. Carrie Watts takes her life-affirming trip against the wishes of her son and authoritarian daughter-in-law, escaping their two room apartment in Houston, befriending a young woman named Thelma at the bus station and travelling with her to Bountiful, to discovering her town is not what she remembered.

Trip to The Bountiful Broadway Cast
- Cicely Tyson as Carrie Watts. She made her Broadway debut in 'Jolly's Progress' and a long carrier on film, theatre and TV including the film Sounder and the television film The Autobiography of Miss Jane Pittman which earned her two Emmy awards. Tyson is a Tony Award winner for her performance in The Trip To Bountiful
- Leon Addison Brown as Ludie Watts
- Adepero Oduye as Thelma. She is known for her breakout role in the Sundance film 'Pariah' as well as the Lifetime Television adaptation of 'Steel Magnolias'
- Vanessa Williams as Jessie Mae Watts. She appeared in 'Kiss of the Spider Woman', 'Sondheim on Sondheim', 'Into the Woods' and The Trip to Bountiful on Broadway. Film/TV credits include Ugly Betty, Shaft and Soul Food.
- Tom Wopat as Sheriff. You might remember him for his role as Luke Duke on The Dukes of Hazzard, Wopat has had a successful theater career, receiving a Tony Award nomination for his role in A Catered Affair.
