Story for The Great God Pan

Jamie's life in Brooklyn seems just fine: a beautiful girlfriend, a budding journalism career, and parents who live just far enough away. But when a possible childhood trauma comes to light, lives are thrown into a tailspin. Unsettling and deeply compassionate, The Great God Pan tells the intimate tale of what is lost and won when a hidden truth is unloosed into the world.

The cast of The Great God Pan features Becky Ann Baker (Assassins), Tony Award nominee Peter Friedman (After the Revolution), Sarah Goldberg (Clybourne Park), Keith Nobbs (Lombardi), Jeremy Strong (The Coward), Joyce Van Patten (The People in the Picture), and Erin Wilhelmi (The Perks of Being a Wallflower).

Amy Herzog is the author of 4000 Miles (Obie Award), After the Revolution (Playwrights Horizons), and Belleville (Yale Rep, NYTW Feb–Mar 2013).

Carolyn Cantor's NY directing work includes After the Revolution and Essential Self-Defense (Playwrights Horizons) as well as work at Manhattan Theater Club, MCC, Second Stage, and Primary Stages.

CRITIC’S PICK. "HAUNTING, DEEPLY AFFECTING, AND UNFAILINGLY HONEST. Amy Herzog is one of the bright theatrical lights of her generation. The actors embody their characters with impeccable precision. Under the attentive direction of Carolyn Cantor, The Great God Pan is not something I'll soon forget." – Charles Isherwood, NYT

"BEAUTIFULLY-CONCEIVED. Herzog ("4000 Miles" and "After the Revolution") sets up ordinary-seeming, intimate and touching scenes, in which wordless moments reveal seismic epiphanies." – Jennifer Farrar, AP

“REMARKABLE and REVELATORY. Whatever the ideal contemporary American drama is, it has to look a lot like The Great God Pan.” –Jesse Oxfeld, Observer "CAPTIVATING. Herzog’s deepest, most mature writing to date. How many playwrights display this kind of economy and strength?" –Melissa Rose Bernardo, EW

“ CRITIC’S PICK. 4 STARS. – Adam Feldman, Time Out
