Tickets at Todd Haimes Theatre

The Todd Haimes Theatre was built in 1918 by producers (and brothers) Arch and Edgar Selwyn and was originally named The Selwyn Theatre. Like many other theaters, it fell victim to the economic woes of the Great Depression and became a movie house in the 1930s.

The venue was a movie theater for almost 70 years, until it was purchased by the Roundabout Theatre Company in the late 1990s. After an expensive overhaul, it reopened as The American Airlines Theatre in 2000. In January 2024, the theater was renamed in memory of Roundabout Theatre Company's longtime artistic director and chief executive Todd Haimes.

Story for Prelunde to a Kiss

In this Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award®-nominated comedy by Craig Lucas (The Light in the Piazza) a whirlwind romance takes a startling turn at Rita (Parisse) and Peter’s (Tudyk) wedding when an uninvited guest (Tony Award® winner John Mahoney) congratulates the bride with a kiss. With this one kiss the couple embarks on a mystical journey, traveling through puzzling identities and hidden longings to find the pure connection of love. Sometimes, a kiss isn’t just a kiss. John Mahoney, best known for playing Martin Crane on "Frasier," won a Tony® for his Broadway debut in The House of Blue Leaves and has appeared in numerous plays with Steppenwolf. Alan Tudyk, who may be familiar to Roundabout audiences from Misalliance in 1997, has gone on to perform on Broadway in musicals such as Epic Proportions and Spamalot as well as numerous films.

Annie Parisse was a series regular on "Law & Order," and has appeared in films including Prime, Monster-in-Law, and National Treasure, and recently finished a run in The Internationalist at the Vineyard Theater. Also joining these three will be Robin Bartlett as "Mrs. Boyle". Robin appeared on Broadway in Yentl and Sholom Aleichem and in numerous off-Broadway plays, including Isn’t It Romantic, The Early Girl, and Craig Lucas's Reckless.

This production continues the Roundabout Theatre Company’s relationship with Tony® award-winning Director Daniel Sullivan. He directed the multiple award-winning production of Lynn Nottage's Intimate Apparel in 2004 and the Tony®-nominated production of Major Barbara starring Dana Ivey, Cherry Jones, David Warner and Denis O’Hare in the summer of 2001.
