Democracy Tickets

The last time acclaimed playwright Michael Frayn teamed up with director Michael Blakemore to disset a moment of recent European history, the result was the gripping 2001 Tony-winning Best Play Copenhagen. Fans take heart--the dynamic duo is at it again with Democracy, arriving on Broadway fresh from an acclaimed West End run. A thrilling and moving tale of espionage, loyalty, unexpected betrayals and the paths we choose in life, Democracy is set in West Germany in the late 1960s--a time of hope and unlimited possibilities. The play charts the astonishing career of Willy Brandt (James Naughton), in his brief but remarkable [IMG:L]tenure as Germany's first liberal leader for nearly forty years. Always present but rarely noticed is Günter Guillaume (Richard Thomas), Brandt's devoted personal assistant--and no less devoted in his other role as a double-agent, spying on Brandt for East Germany's infamous Ministry of State Security.
