St. Ann's Warehouse presents KNEEHIGH THEATRE NOËL COWARD'S BRIEF ENCOUNTER, directed by Emma Rice.
Adapted by director Emma Rice from Noel Coward's one-act , Still Life, and David Lean's 1946 film, Brief Encounter, this production careens around varying moods of clenched passion heaving under the middle-class restraint of the duty-bound Alec and Laura, and the wild music- hall exuberance of the slap-and-tickle high junks of the two other clandestine couples. This Brief Encounter celebrates love at all its stages- first love, forbidden room as grand entertainment, full whimsical humor, dreamy romance, and stunning multimedia effects. Music plays a central role too. The live band plays familiar songs by Coward, as well as original songs set to Coward tests, including the poem " I'm No Good at Love".
Following an immensely successful run on London’s West End, an award-winning tour of the U.K. and a twice-extended American Premiere in San Francisco, the beloved Kneehigh production comes to St. Ann’s Warehouse for a Five-Week Engagement beginning December 2nd.
