Tickets at Ethel Barrymore Theatre

The Ethel Barrymore Theatre is the only theater left that was built for actors and performers affiliated with Lee and J.J. Shubert. It was created in honor of the tremendously popular actress Ethel Barrymore, who premiered in the production The Kingdom of God.

The theater was designed by Herbert J. Krapp with an exterior in the fashion of Roman public baths and a two-story terracotta grillwork screen.

Story for Betrayal

Told in reverse chronology, Betrayal interrogates different permutations of betrayal relating to a seven-year affair involving a married couple, Emma and Robert (Weisz and Craig), and Robert's "close friend" Jerry, who is also married to an unseen woman named Judith.

Written in 1978, Betrayal is inspired by Harold Pinter's own extramarital affair. The story is set between 1968 and 1977 in London and Venice. The original Broadway production starred Raul Julia, Blythe Danner and Roy Scheider. A 2000 revival starred Liev Schreiber, Juliette Binoche and John Slattery. Betrayal marks the second Broadway play for James Bond star Daniel Craig and the Broadway debuts for Rachel Weisz and Rafe Spall.
