A MINISTER’S WIFE, a new musical based on George Bernard Shaw’s Candida, is set in London in the swirl of a love triangle among a charismatic preacher, his beautiful wife, Candida, and a lovestruck young poet—who worships imagination and... the minister’s wife!
Marc Kudisch plays the minister, Bobby Steggert is the poet and Kate Fry, who played Candida to great acclaim in the original Chicago production in 2009, repeats her role here. Also in the cast are Liz Baltes and Drew Gehling.
Austin Pendleton adapted the Shaw classic; the dazzling score is by Joshua Schmidt (Adding Machine), with lyrics by Jan Levy Tranen. Michael Halberstam, who conceived the musical and staged the Chicago production, directs.
