A wonderful example of Oscar Wildes great talent!! Review by: Elsbeth, Feb 28, 2008 |
This is one of the better productions I've seen of this play. The sets, actors and timing were all very good. It's been done many times before but there is such a warm , comfortable feeling about Oscar Wilde's plays, they just draw you in and for a moment you are transported to another place and time where manners and propriety and social encounters were so different and proper. And Oscar Wilde has a way of saying things so bluntly ... read more through his characters, sometimes you are surprised with the freshness and sharpness with which his voice comes out. His social criticisms and sarcastic look at the society he lived in. As aspiring writers are sometimes told " write about what you know", Wilde wrote about what he knew, but his ability to stand back and take a critical look at his own period while still being able to write lines that even today make and audience smile is what makes this play such a joy to see. |
