Unmissable Review by: Sandraee, May 21, 2007 |
Amazing production of British classic The datedness is less apparent, as current political conditions and age-old attitudes are brought to the fore. Astonishing performance by Robert Lindsay, who brings out the humanity, bitternesss, failures of this hasbeen/neverwas Entertainer. Pam Ferris is remarkable in matching up to him, her bold portrayal is captivating. All of the cast keep the pace and are very generous, I feel, in support ... read more of the two leads. One of the best shows I have seen in a long time. Lindsay deserves all the awards going. If you are a theatre buff, see this now. |

Dear, oh dear! Review by: And how!, May 18, 2007 |
| Very amateurish production in general, with some really bad performances. The two female roles were so poorly played it was embarrassing. By the second interval we decided to bail out, leaving four rather expensive, empty seats in the stalls. You have been warned! What a pity we didn't find this site before it was too late... |

Review by: penny, Apr 23, 2007 |
| Great acting from Lindsay and Ferris shame the daughter Jean was played apallingly. The music was great and some scenes were very moving. Although others were a complete rabble of yelling and screaming, which was painful to the ears. |

Don't miss Robert Lindsay's Archie Rice! Review by: Ronnie, Apr 20, 2007 |
| I saw Olivier play Archie Rice. Dare I say that Robert Lindsay's performance is better? The play (of course) is dated and will appeal more to afficionado's the Osbourne era or the A level student but as a piece of history and as a piece of theatre it's a rattling good production acted well by all the cast. Archie's 'I have a go' is delivered with pathos and the realisation that he's not the best in the world but 'he has a go' - that's what we ... read more all do on life's journey, isn't it? Highly recommended. |

The Entertainer: An Entertaining Insight Review by: Lunatic, Apr 18, 2007 |
| I thought that this play took a while to kick in and i didnt really find it that entertaining given the ironic title, but as the play went on it got a bit exciting as the family evolved. I thought Robert Lindsay's performance was fantastic as Archie Rice the Entertainer, definatly an insight to the 50's and post war britain, it shows how families coped. |

Dated, over-rated, inebriated Review by: the truth, Mar 29, 2007 |
Robert Lindsay is the only half-decent thing in this dated, unconvincing production in which a dying music hall tradition serves as a heavy-handed metaphor for Britain's dying empire.
But even Lindsay cannot rescue this production. Long, stagey sequences in which a disfunctional family shout at one another might have been radical fifty years ago but now just look like unedited scenes from EastEnders. His comedy "schtick" is supposed ... read more to be amusingly bad, but it soon wears thin .
Drunkenness is notoriously difficult to act, especially on stage. It is a shame that, given the level of boozing in this play, the acting of inebriation was not more convincing.
Come to think of it, I wish it had been me that had spent the evening drinking instead. I'd have had a better time, instead of nodding off halfway through the second act. |

Entertainer Review by: risko, Mar 27, 2007 |
i felt this play was an interesting and different type. if you're into political,British, traditional plays, then i recommend you see this. It makes a good use of 'breaking the frame' device to seperate the Entertainment from his family and entertaing audience. |

The Entertainer = AMAZE! Review by: Ellesappelle, Mar 21, 2007 |
After reading the play I was excited to see it in action. The production certainly lived up to my expectations. The performances by Robert Lindsey and Pam Ferris were believeable and took me into the world of post-war Britain. The comedic timing of Lindsey was superb and his switch to the indepth emotional side of his character brilliantly acted. I recommend anyone who has interest in good quality acting to book your tickets and go see this ... read more great production. You will not be disappointed.

Terrible show Review by: showlover, Feb 25, 2007 |
| horrible and boring. Simple stage setting of an old flat that never changes. All you heard was yelling and screaming. No fun and not funny. Left before the 3rd round. The worst show I've ever seen. |
