One of the finest shows... Review by: TopHat143, Aug 4, 2007 |
| Saw Billy Elliot on Aug 2nd with my Mom and partner and we all cheered for Billy! I fell in love with this character all over again. Loved the movie. Listened to the cast recording for who knows how many times. THIS PRODUCTION WAS WORTH THE PLANE RIDE TO LONDON FROM NEW YORK!!! Corey Snide who played the title role (also from NY) is a talent to behold. His dancing, singing and acting was exquisite. I cried and so did my boyfriend and Mom ... read more during the Letter scene. It was just handled beautifully. The whole production from staging, lighting to music (by Elton John and Lee Hall) to directing and choreography is first rate. The entire cast esp James Gaddas and Jackie Clune as Dad and Mrs. Wilkerson, respectively, was wonderful and the children were terrific!! I heard that the show is coming to Broadway and though I can't wait to see it, this production will be hard to top. Highly recommend it to everyone. It's one of the best shows I've seen in many years. |

Hype Doesn't Equal Greatness Review by: Craig, Mar 23, 2007 |
| Very disappointing.... Too much hype and very little delivery. Maybe we caught them on a bad night but the three leads were not the quality of most of the shows playing in West End. |

Enjoyable but wanted more Review by: JustJack, Mar 20, 2007 |
| The production was definitely first class. The staging was great and the performers were truly amazing. The score and lyrics however were the weak points. Overall though an enjoyable experience. |

See it again and be inspired by youth and innocence Review by: Broadway Patron, Feb 11, 2007 |
I too agree, that my trip to London to see Billy Elliot, was definately worth the airfare. The movie was good but the show, the kids, the actors will forever remain in my memory.
Not since "The Sound of Music" have I been so enthralled! |

This show is itself almost worth the airfare to London. It's great to see a musical with good acting and storyline. It also provided some good comedic lines as well. I'd definitely see it again, especially since each show is likely to be a bit different as the cast rotates.
Definitely a great value for 25 pound tickets in the 1st and 2nd row on the day of the show. The seats toward the center are not really restricted view seats. |

Audience left breathless Review by: Greg, Oct 3, 2006 |
| I had already listened to the CD and liked the music and I was familiar with the movie version. I was not, however, prepared for the exhilaration that awaited me all throughout this show. The clever tap and ballet numbers which interspersed the riot police and the striking miners was a stroke of genius. Having Billy's dead mother appear as a real person twice in the show only emphasized his lack of earthly support he so sorely needed ... read more from his father, brother, and grandmother. Sniffles could be heard everywhere during these scenes. The quirky ballet teacher and Maggie Thatcher's Christmas party supplied the much-needed comic relief. Billy's flying dream sequence left the audience breathless. I would see it again and again. Please, send it to the States! |

This is a musical, the British audience will want to return to Review by: niko, Aug 30, 2006 |
The opening is wonderful, video footage shows the twentieth century news footage history of the mines and "The Stars Look Down" is a stirring avowal of brotherhood and community amongst coal miners.
Sexually explicit language is something you might like to think about before taking children to Billy Elliot but in context, for adults, this scene had the audience in stitches.
I liked the lighting effects for scenes like the one where ... read more Billy dances silhouetted against the line of riot policemen. The skill is that one is swept along by the story, the detail contributing to the whole rather than distracting from it.
Billy Elliot is a very fine British musical from the talented Stephen Daldry with great ensemble performances. There is a good helping of eccentricity and humour alongside a more sobering subject matter achieving that rare phenomenon, a musical that makes you think. I loved Peter Darling's choreography and Lee Hall's lyrics. No-one could object to Elton John's pleasant tunes and because most are only heard once, they may become more memorable when given a chance " to grow on one". This is a musical, the British audience will want to return to. Even as early as the opening night, I met enthusiastic people already seeing it again. |
