Light and Shade Review by: Ally, Feb 1, 2012 |
| Have now seen Billy nine times. You will feel every emotion possible. Its funny, sad, dark, and entertaining. Swearing is not gratuitous, just typical of a Northern mining town in the 80's. The cast and children are amazing. This is true theatre and not just a bit of "fluff". |

not recomended Review by: jols, Dec 17, 2011 |
| went to see this on 16/12/11 for my daughters 22nd Birthday treat, Language dreadful particularly as young cast are singing and shouting really unpleasant swear words together with their adult cast members. Totally unnecessary and wont be recomending this show to anyone. In all a long and not great production, not west end standard. |

Disappointing, waste of money. Review by: G Force., Sep 26, 2011 |
| Very disappointed. Production was too long and not nearly as good as the film. At times it verged on being a pantomime. Swearing and profanity were frequent. I was upset as i had paid £200 for tickets for a special occasion. The seats were a total nightmare, so uncomfortable. The whole experience was very poor, and a waste of money. |

Corey Snide as Billy Review by: lisac123, Jul 11, 2008 |
OMG, it was outstanding! If people who read this who are going to see it who think that Musicals are not really their thing, they will change their minds after seeing Billy Elliot the Musical. It was fantastic! I went to London on the last performance for Corey Snide, so I also felt glad that I could share his last night with him! Corey Snide is ultra talented and he will go far in the future. Its a shame that his voice was breaking,... read more, but everyone saw past that and just heard his spectactular voice that just sent chills down your spine. He was amazing. I could go on for ages about how great thismusical was, but i wont, well ill try not to hahah. I have seen Joseph and his amazing technicoloured dream coat at west endbefore, but that was nothingcompared to this. I think it was definitly worth the money, as the songs were catchy, (I have had Electricty in my head for 6 days now, and im not exaggerating) the dancingwas well put together, and the Angry dance scene. WOW. It was so powerful. As soon, as I got home the following day,I was buying the CD, and finding out info about Corey Snide. Oh,and I cant forget Shaun Malone who played Michael. If i was a 12 yearold lad, i would not be able to act so easily with the stuff he does in this musical. He as really good aswell, everytime he comes on stage, you had to laugh! Ok, i think thats enough writing for now. It was amazing! |

A Sensational performance for every age that I could watch every day ! Review by: Ella, Jun 24, 2008 |
AT first I wasn't really keen to go over from FRance to see it and I realised I was COMPLETELY wrong when I came out of the theater! I've seen many musicals and out of all of them this one is most definetly the BEST!!!! I'm sure having Corey Snide as Billy helped though, his acting was marvellous: moving, would make the audience laugh, got well into his character and he put on a great accent (knowing that he is American) -Dancing:... read more: Outstanding, he makes it look so easy, It was just PERFECT! -Singing: I won't say this is a dispointment, he delivered alot of emotion through his voice, but it was a bit dificult for him when he had to sing high notes (like in Electricity) but his dancing and acting really compensated. He had great stage presence and you really wish that you could've known him!
what I also find great in this musical is the different shapes and sizes!!!! You could get a fat minor in a tutu but dancing marvelously!!!! It is also the funniest musical ever! And I thank everyone very much for having produced this life changing musicalsen If you haven't seen this musical well do or else you might regret it forever!! really!!

Outstandnig, mind-blowing, incredible! Review by: Caitlin, Mar 18, 2008 |
Billy Elliot the Musical is an outstanding, mind-blowing performance which makes every member of the audience feel alive through dance, singing and acting. It will make you cry one minute and laugh hysterically the next. Billy Elliot the Musical is a uniquely British musical that tells the story of one boy’s struggle to realise his ambitions to dance against all the odds. Visually, this show is unbelievable and the choreography ... read more is brilliant. As the miners’ strike of 1984 reaches its climax, Billy and his community fight to keep their dreams alive. For example, in the ‘Angry Dance’, the choreographer decided to use the confined space of Billy’s bedroom to represent the build up of frustration of which Billy feels as his dad denies him the opportunity to dance. Then gradually, as Billy gets increasingly frustrated, more of the stage is used as his anger spills out towards his family and finally the police, who are portrayed as the enemy of the miners. Another scene that is visually outstanding is when Billy is almost dreaming about a career in dance and the chance to perform in ‘Swan Lake’. Billy is listening to Swan Lake and practising a routine alone in the village hall, when an older dancer, representing Billy as an adult, enters the stage and does the same dance. The contrast of the two dancers is fantastic and when Billy begins to ‘fly’ with the assistance of the older Billy, it is breathtaking. Every young actor will interpret the character of Billy differently but all of them who play Billy Elliot will be incredible. Each young actor will have a different level of expertise in areas of dance; however the choreographer and director successfully show the boys off to their best ability. For example, the first time I saw the show, I saw Colin Bates. Colin was fantastic and had a strength in contemporary and ballet, whereas he wasn’t as strong in tap or modern. However, his dances were adapted so that he could perform to his full potential. The second time I saw the show I saw Sam Angell. Sam had a flare for modern, tap and contemporary, but wasn’t as strong at ballet. But once again, his dances were adapted to suit him and show him off to his full ability. Every character in the show is brought to life in every performance! Both times that I saw the show, I came away speechless! It was a hundred times better than I ever thought it would be and I came away a huge fan! The fact that it has been a full house almost every night has to tell you something! With every pirouette and flip, comes another tear and breath of excitement! I would strongly advise anyone to go and see the show as I am positive that absolutely everyone who sees it will come away full of admiration! Easily the best thing I will ever see! 10 out of 10!

Review by: , Nov 19, 2007 |
| We saw this show on Thursday, Nov. 15th. The dancing was great and overall we enjoyed the show; however, this might not be the best choice for Americans. Lines were very difficult to understand and the entire show was filled with major profanity. I thing the Londoners are far more used to that than this Texan. |

Corey Snide is Electric! Review by: Moonbowboi, Nov 2, 2007 |
| I have seen BETM 6 times in the past 2 months and have become addicted. The first time I saw it Oliver Taylor was playing Billy and he was amazing! I totally fell in love with his portrayal of Billy and thought myself lucky that I got to see what I presumed was the best Billy at the moment. When on a couple of subsequent visits to London I decided to take in some more performances ( 3 back to back at one point ) and saw Travis ( great singer ... read more decent dancer but not enough stage presance ) and Sam a couple of times ( sullen Billy ) I thought my origional opinion that Olly was the best was correct. Then on my final visit Corey Snide was in the lead role and OMG he blew me away. He lit up the stage! His voice is on the verge of breaking but still gave the best vocal performance of Electricty ive heard. His acting was really good too. He played Billy as a sweet and smily boy rather than the more agressive one that Sam played. But what stood out in Coreys performance for me was his dancing. I have seen the show 6 times as ive mentioned but Corey was the only one who made me cry from his dancing ability alone. Mesmorizing! I will be back in London again in a couple of weeks and plan to see it at least once. I hope I get a chance to see Corey in the title role again. He made me understand what it means when Billy says dancing feels like electricty. |

Review by: Malason, Sep 3, 2007 |
Have seen this show three times - with Liam, Layton and Travis - all were absolutely amazing. To hold the stage for more than two hours is so impressive - especially with the spotlight almost entirely on their dancing, singing and acting. Story line was so good and reflected the times of the early 80s. I would go again, again and again. The swearing although difficult coming from such young mouths was always in context and, I guess, ... read more reflected in the mining town. GREAT SHOWS. My last was the final performance by Travis Yates and he was terrific and what curtain call! He will do well in life. He deserved the very positive tributes paid to him by members of the cast - his very pleasant attitude to life, friends and his work almost topped his professionalism and expert dancing and singing. |

Billy Elliott Review Review by: Billy Elliott Lover!!!, Aug 10, 2007 |
| I saw Billy Elliott a few weeks ago with my family. I was amazed at the talent of the actors and cast. Out of all the west end shows i've seen (Wicked, Mary Poppins, Mama Mia, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Lion King) I would definately rate it the highest!! I saw Corey Snide as Billy and thought he was wonderful! |
