Fabulous preformance, thanks to my school! Review by: cwhs, Apr 1, 2009 |
This play was highly enjoyable, however although word for word like the original play, it had some character differences. One was that they showed Eddie in a worse light than in the original, while Marco was showed in a very sympathetic life. I will tell you about the character performances. First Ken Stott as Eddie. I'm sorry if you like him, but he just doesn't do it right. The flawed, yet sympathetic character becomes in his hands a ... read more self-righteous pig. He is awful to everyone. I completely disagree with the other reviews. Next Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio as Beatrice. Now I already knew this famous actress from other things. Her preformance eclipses his by miles. She is fabulous as the mediating wife and aunt. Hayley Atwell as Catherine is fabulous too. She manages to combine stubborness and weakness perfectly. Her most effective scene is when she shouts at Eddie near the end. The actor who played Marco is very good, quiet and he manages to convey our sympathy. (Previously I had hated Marco, but now I think there is some sympathy). Harry Lloyd as Rodolpho isn't quite right however. Miller's Rodolpho is kind, sweet, funny, friendly and many good things. Lloyd's preformance improves over time and he becomes better but to begin with he is too over-the-top. Alfieri is good telling us the story exactly right and forceful to Eddie and Marco at different points. If this receives a Tony, it should be for either Mastrantonio, Atwell or the actor who played Marco. All in all, a fabulous preformance! |
