Kids, Teens, Tweens, Yups, Newlyweds, Adults, Matures - it's for everyone! Review by: RBradATL, Jul 20, 2008 |
| Ok, it's a spoof, but WHAT A SPOOF. The best thing about the movie (correction: the only good thing about the movie) was the music. And that's the only thing they kept. Loose story, but very fun production. |

great show saw it twice! Think you need to kind of have an idea about the original movie/soundtrack before you see it. Campy, funny and some great numbers. Sit in mezzanine floor on right hand side near aisle of central section on right side looking at stage to get best view. the 2 'evil muses' were a hoot and had the audience in stitches the whole night. dont bother buying the 'champagne' is its warm! all the cast were ... read more strong and the male lead has GREAT legs!!! |

XANADU ROCKS Review by: warehserat, Jul 6, 2008 |
| "Xanadu" the movie was horrible but "Xanadu" the Broadway musical is something else again. We unfortunately did not see Kerry Butler but her understudy was wonderful. Cheyenne Jackson is no longer in the show so we missed him too. His replacement was a bit weak in the vocal department. That being said, the rest of the cast was phenomenal especially Mary Testa and Jackie Hoffman who all but stole the show. Run don't walk to "Xanadu", the campiest ... read more Broadway show in ages! |

Have seen it 4 times and going back again! Review by: fanadu, Jun 25, 2008 |
| This is the funniest, happiest show on Broadway. If you do not leave the theatre with a smile on your face, dancing, there's something wrong! |

The most uncormortable seats ever! Review by: 121mhz, Jun 22, 2008 |
Seems like there's a lot of reviews here, but I'll add one more. This theater has the most UNCOMFORTABLE seats on Broadway. The stranger next to me commented that the seats were designed for a airline. Unfortunately The gentlemen sitting on me (not next to me, ON ME) and my wife trying to give me a little extra room, my knees jammed into the edge of the balcony in front of me all made it impossible to enjoy the show. The theater was ... read more obviously designed for a much smaller audience (as evidenced by the size of the bathrooms) and some greedy businessman felt that audience comfort was the least of his worries. The play itself is moderately funny, but I really couldn't get over the discomfort of the seats to enjoy it. |

"A HEAVENLY MUSE-ICAL" Review by: Beth M., Jun 1, 2008 |
XANADU By Beth Mandelbaum I realize that one of the last things needed by Broadwaybox is another review of Xanadu, but I would really like to share my enthusiasm. While I knew that this musical had received excellent notices when it opened, I somehow asssumed that it would not be “for me.” But to my great surprise and delight, I had an absolutely wonderful afternoon at Xanadu. This musical put a big smile on my face, and I found myself ... read more laughing a great deal during the blissfully entertaining 90 minutes that is Xanadu. I went on the occasion of this musical’s one year anniversary and also because of the “Cub-Cake” bake sale that was organized outside the theater as a fund raiser for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights Aids, which is among my favorite causes. Xanadu is a very high energy musical. I found the music to be a genuine “up.” And though this kind of rock/pop music is not always to my taste, I decided to buy the CD and played it three times before seeing the show. And once I was there, I was “hooked!” I often found myself moving my feet and rocking in my seat. To me, the deliciously quirky and sometimes over the top story was extremely clever. The book by Douglas Carter Beane, of The Little Dog Laughed fame, is highly entertaining and extremely funny; and it added a great deal to making Xanadu a genuinely fine musical rather than having it be relegated to the position of and yet another “jukebox” musical, to coin a phrase. The cast is stupendous. Kerry Butler and Cheyenne Jackson were perfectly cast in the leading roles. They have wonderful voices, winning personalities, and offer fine comedic talent in abundance. The same can be said of the supporting cast, which is chock full of talent, most notably Tony Roberts, Jackie Hoffman and Mary Testa, but everyone offered their gifts. I have not as yet seen the film version of Xanadu, which I understand was notoriously dreadful, but I am going to rent it to experience it for myself. However, I think that it takes a great deal of courage to make a musical out of a reputedly disastrous film, but all of the elements of Xanadu, the musical, work to near perfection. And I now understand why Xanadu has been nominated for the Tony Award for Best Musical of the season. I feel that it is well worth a visit (and do use a Broadwaybox discount!).

An average show Review by: EL, May 24, 2008 |
| After reading all the great reviews, I went to see the show with fairly high expectations. I have to say that I felt quite disappointed with every aspect of the show. That being said, if what you're looking for is a light-hearted, relaxing hour-and-half performance, this might not be a bad choice. |

Just a so-so play Review by: AES, May 21, 2008 |
I saw the show last weekend. We got tickets at the TKTS booth and wound up in Row A, smack in the center. WAY to close!! The singing was so-so. There was no singing along or clapping along in the audience. The acting was average. There were almost no costume changes and NO SET...Nothing. Some of the audience sits on the stage too. It is weird to be watching the actors and watching the audience as well. The story line is really weak. The main ... read more actor is very good looking and you will recognize one of the women from being on a bunch of TV shows and movies. (I don't have my playbook now to mention their names) It is disappointing to go see something that is so low budget (no costumes, no set etc) and pay almost the same price as a show with tons of costumes and set changes. This show should be at a much lower cost. It wasn't the worst show I've ever seen, but it ranks pretty low. |

| Saw Xanadu when it came out in previews on the Broadwaybox discount email notification-thanks-we luckily got 4 FANTASTIC seats center stage 1st row right by the steps leading up to the stage..!LOVED the show, we laughed alot at it's zaniness and left with a huge smile..A truly feel good time.. Seeing it on my recommendation, my husband even loved it, and he has seen numerous Broadway shows over the years and is a great judge of them...... read more. The critics must be correct since it was nominated for the Tonys this year! |

| I just saw this show with my 12-year old daughter. I was expecting just OK but it was quite good. My daughter turned to me and said "we must see this one again." The acting is what really makes this show work. I would like to see it again if we could get on-the-stage seating which would be an experience. |

Goofy fun Review by: rafalweb, Apr 26, 2008 |
For those of you who didn't like this show.....I'll give you 20 bucks, now go out and buy yourselves a sense of humor. The most fun I've ever had at a broadway show, I left with a huge grin on my face. I'd see it again. Lighten up guys, it's meant to be campy and silly , and does not take itself seriously. Great fun. |

Total Disappointment Review by: jenny, Apr 24, 2008 |
| I saw this show yesterday, and thought it was the worse musical I have ever seen! What a disappointment! It was more like a community theatre production. It lacked good costumes, no real set, poor acting/singing (overdone by some), No WOW factor at all. The male lead and older man were the only good parts. |
