Fun ride Review by: epcotchic31, Apr 25, 2011 |
| I have been attending Broadway shows for over 20 years and this was the first show in a long time I was excited about. The whole cast was talented. Don't expect a heavy storyline. Expect a fun time at the theater. |

Act I - Great!!!! Act II - Disappointing ... Review by: bernpow, Apr 22, 2011 |
Up to Act I it was awesome...I couldn't understand any of the negative reviews. But Act II was a big letdown. That said, the actors and ensemble are tremendously talented. I could not believe that the actress that plays Chloe is only 11 - what an amazing voice. Alice is also absolutely terrific So, in short - glad that I went - but wish that they would get some writing/scripting assist to tweak Act II to bring it up to the same par as the ... read more first Act. PS - All the parents who brought kids, food, candy, water bottles, etc etc into the theatre - clean up after yourselves!!!! I could not believe how disgusting people could leave the theater...it was not like that when we arrived. Sad to see such a decline of common courtesy in such a venue... I wouldn't have chosen this play for young kids anyway - stick to Disney if that's what you are looking for. |

A Great Show to See with Kids or Adults Review by: Thasi, Apr 20, 2011 |
I had read some reviews before coming to see the show with a Girl Scout troop in tow, and I was a little reserved based on some of the bad reviews I have found. But I was pleasantly surprised. The show I saw is not the same as the summaries you can find on Google, the show has since had a few parts changed. I found the music fun to listen to, and the whole play very entertaining. The first act was a little difficult to follow, but the second ... read more act is significantly clearer. Plus they gave a clue to a large plot point, which is in my opinion easy to figure out. Even with that, I was very satisfied with the play overall. Not only did I, an easy-to-please customer, enjoy the show, our entire group loved it. This is coming from the same people who said the Lion King musical was "decent at best". It is a great show for kids and adults, and I recommend seeing Wonderland. |

Kids will love it....I did too. Review by: FamilyInTow, Apr 20, 2011 |
| I don't care what the critics have said about this show, I'm glad I saw it and so were my two children. We had so much fun. Not only do I find that critics come in with a predisposition to like or hate something (in this case hate) but they're often looking for/seeing things that "normal" people couldn't care less about. In this case, we thoroughly enjoyed the singing, dancing, costumes. It's entertainment, critics, not English literature 201 ... read more at Harvard, okay? The story got a little blurry for my 9 year old, but she loved it anyway. Highly recommended. |

What play did the critics see? People do want to have fun! Review by: Lance, Apr 19, 2011 |
| I don't know why the critics hate Frank Wildhorn. I am not sure what play the critics saw. No this musical is not profound. No, I wouldn't put it on my top ten list. The stage design is not going to win a Tony. However, what is wrong, with a sweet, funny and wholesome musical that the whole family can enjoy? What is wrong with tunes that someone can hum; is that a crime? The singing is wonderful and the songs are quite enjoyable and despite what ... read more the critics say the story makes sense. The costumes are fun and the dancing is solid, though not anything special. One thing that I totally don't understand the critics getting on is the variety of song styles. This makes total sense. Each character has a unique song style; pretty straight forward stuff to me. Is that so hard to comprehend; different style for different character. I must say that I am always amazed when I see a play that the audience loves, gives a standing ovation that the critics even note and still it is said that the play was bad. Critics will say, oh those dumb out of towners don't get it. Well, maybe it is the critics who don't get it. People want to be entertained when the shell out big bucks to see a play and guess what, this musical really entertains. Listen anyone reading this, go have some fun and go see Wonderland. |

Fun filled fantasy! Great for the whole family! Review by: broadway mom, Apr 19, 2011 |
| My husband and I went to see Wonderland this weekend. I wasn't expecting mush, however I left the theatre with a giant smile on my face! We spent the evening laughing, tapping our feet to the cool hip music and had a wonderful time. We can't wait to bring our daughters! The actors have amazing voices, the costumes are clever and colorful and the sets are unique and imaginative. This is a show for everyone with a wonderful message to never give up ... read more your dreams! |

The anti-Wicked: trying too hard to follow in the footsteps of success Review by: Shof21, Apr 17, 2011 |
| There were good things in this musical, but very few compared to the list of the awful aspects. I hear a lot of people like Janet Decal's voice, but to me, it's incredibly irritating and screechy. There were some songs that didn't sound terrible, but i don't think she was strong enough to be the lead in a musical like this. The knight was very good and I enjoyed the caterpillar's songs. The cat was just funny with his lines, but the whole latino ... read more aspect was just poorly executed. The rabbit was just there, nothing to say really about him, could've done more... Oh, and the queen- AWFUL costume that was just ridiculous and her voice mediocre. I though the mad hatter was impressive, but her voice would get annoying at times, but overall great job from that actress. The sets were mediocre and just not very good, although the curtain of the stage was very cool. I hated the use of projections. Good idea, bad execution. There were projections crossing each other as curtain things, like in Spiderman. Spiderman just overall did better with the video aspects of the "curtain" type things b/c they weren't projections, they were actual screens. The story was alright, not great. The fact they had Louis Carroll in it and called him charles or something astounded me and I was just like why is this in here. The music, i have to admit, was catchy, but definitely didn't sound original. The latino cat song sounded like something on Z100 and the first song sounded like something I would hear Taylor Swift sing. OH i almost forgot about the daughter, Chloe, who was fantastic. I liked her a lot. Overall the lights were overused and distracting, so that contributes to my negative outlook of the show. The ending to the story is way to predictable to be enjoyable. To be honest, I wouldn't see this show again b/c it was a bad, overdone, copycat production of Wicket. |

very pleasantly surprised -- some hilarious bits, some beautiful music Review by: teeny, Apr 17, 2011 |
I saw this in previews and went in not having any idea what to expect. Although the show wasn't perfect, it has so much going for it that I am really rooting for this show to succeed. The boy band spoof is absolutely hilarious. The kickline of Alices is a panic. When the show was over I saw a young dad with two young girls (like 6 and 8) and I asked if they liked the show. "Like it?" he said, "they LOVE it! They demanded I take them ... read more to see it again." (Good dad). I asked if it was the boy band they loved but he said no, it was Chloe (the 11 year old). I know that the critics for the most part don't like Wildhorn, but I think this show will be critic-proof, like "Wicked," and I do think fans of "Wicked" will love this show. And oh -- the dad said this performance was VERY different from the first one they saw, the first week of previews -- he said it was MUCH better. That clears up a bit of a mystery -- I had heard a LOT of bad things about this show when previews started, but obviously they have been working very hard to get the show ready for opening night (which is tonight). I'm rooting for this show to be a hit -- it's really a lot of fun -- and very family friendly, too. Break a leg, Wonderland! |

Wonder-ful! Review by: Rob, Apr 17, 2011 |
| This show is just fun! It's cute it's funny, it's a visual treat, and come on, The Mad Hatter and The Queen of Hearts can belt it baby!!! And the backup "boy band" is a near show-stopper! I was a little bummed that they dropped some of my favorite songs from the original concept recording, but life goes on. I think this is Frank's best work since Jekyll and Hyde. |

Surprising Marquis Review by: asliza, Apr 14, 2011 |
| A spoof, a parody, a ball of energy with musical elements from many shows over the years. The score was not original but it made you feel good. I groaned out loud with some of the humor and slapped my knees a couple of times during dance moves...it was entertaining. I liked the message, "don't grow up too fast". Most of the cast brought life to their roles with the support of some very good special effects. A must see?, no, but a nice way to ... read more spend a night on Broadway. |

Low Expectations- How Wrong I Was. This is a Must See! Review by: , Apr 12, 2011 |
Okay I’ll admit it. I’m a big Wildhorn fan. Loved Jekyll and Hyde, The Scarlet Pimpernel and Dracula. I saw his amazing Waiting for the Moon in Jersey years ago and had the pleasure to see Bonnie and Clyde in Florida this December. In December of 2009, I went to Florida to see the first incarnation of Wonderland. As a Wildhorn fan I was so excited for this. Well what I got was a firm kick in the stomach. I was floored by how bad the show was in ... read more Florida the first time around. The Story made ZERO sense and some of the songs were horrible. Shockingly the finale was ridiculous and there was no connection to the characters at all. When I heard that Wonderland was coming to Broadway I was utterly confused. How could Wonderland be coming when such gems as WAITING FOR THE MOON, BONNIE and CLYDE, CYRANO, HAVANNA and many other Wildhorn shows were so much better. I didn’t get it. But as a loyal Wildhorn fan, I bought my tickets and off to the Marqui Theatre I went. I was excited to have frank back on Broadway where he belongs. The overture starts and it sounds different, new melodies that weren’t on the concept album. The Curtain rises and within five minutes of the show I realize it’s a completely different story. It no longer showcases Alice as a struggling writer but as a struggling mom and wife who is having difficulty remembering her dreams. Every bad song from the concept album was cut out and replaced by amazing show stoppers. The story totally works, the songs are amazing, the cast is great, the set is out of this world and I find my self shedding tears (something I never do) in the final scene. And not to mention how much I laughed through the whole show. This is magic on stage. The creative team really pulled it together and made a fantastic show. Its GREAT! ITS WONDERFUL! ITS WONDERLAND and I encourage you to go see it!!!!!!!!!!!!

THE CROWD GOES WILD Review by: NATTIE, Apr 11, 2011 |
My Husband and I went to the TKTS booth in hopes of catching some tickets to Billy Elliott. But they were limited and we didn’t get them. We usually never take a chance and buy tickets to a show we don’t know too much about. We had seen the posters for Wonderland but never heard any of the music. Last time we did this was for NEXT TO NORMAL and we were burned! Well they had great seats at a good price so we took the plunge. Glad to say ... read more it was one of the best decisions I have made in a long time! This is a heart warming story with a terrific score and my god what comedy. I have never heard a crowd laugh as loud as I did at the Marquis. Perhaps its the great acoustics but they shook the rafters especially after the fantastic song ONE KNIGHT. The crowd goes wild, you laugh, you cry, you have a great night. It will be a tough call but Wonderland may just bring home this year’s Tony for Best New Musical.

Instead of being filled with wonder, I was left WONDERING. Review by: Slayton, Apr 9, 2011 |
| This show is appauling. The unoriginal songs came out of no where, and I pitied the actors (particularly Kate Shindle - The Mad Hatter) for having to navigate awkward dialogue and the cheese ball, unfunny, and misguided scenes. I seriously had to avert my eyes during all of the actors' campy "takes" to the audience on tired one-liners. To make matters worse, before the show and during intermission they displayed images of original "Alice ... read more In Wonderland" illustrations, which only served as another reminder that this production had NOTHING in common with Lewis Carroll's beloved classic. I begged my friend to leave with me at intermission, but she felt bad about doing that so we stayed for Act II. There is no way this show is going to last.. |
